It wasn't an earth shattering, change your life kind of day.
Still it was absolutely perfect.
Even being awakened at 5:45 didn't put a damper on my day. Ok at 5:45 it did, but by 2:30 I had forgotten all about the early wake-up. And Tate did sort of go back to sleep; he didn't bother me again until 6:46. I searched out the computer and turned on his beloved trains and I dozed another 45 minutes.
Laundry, breakfast, cleaning up, FB, SMC forum and then we were off to soccer!!
It rained and poured overnight. All night it seemed. With all that rain though came blessedly cooler weather. Finally. It was in the low 60s....a veritable cold front for Houstonians. It is fantastic!!! I bundled us both up, and we headed to the soccer field!

Then we headed off to his school's fall festival. Tate was thrilled that two of his little friends (Matt and Gavin) were going to be joining him for the festivities (they don't go to our school).
We made our way through the parish hall outside to the games area. Ten minutes later, Christian arrived. Christian and Tate had been in class together since they were infants, and Christian has started going to a new school this fall. For the first 3 weeks, Tate would constantly ask after Christian, sure he was just on vacation. I kept telling him C was in a new school, and finally Tate got it.
He was so sad.
Today Christian was back.
They played and played and played.
And played some more.
They still have their own little language too.
This friendship of theirs is what I've always wished for my child. I know that as the years go by, and they're in different schools with different friends and different interests that they will probably forget one another, but for now they haven't. For now they've remained connected.
And it was lovely to watch. Just lovely.
Our other friends arrived as well, but they paled in comparison :).
We said heartfelt good-byes with promises to get our two boys together, so I truly hope we can do so. Life just gets so very busy, doesn't it. I have to remember that like me, Tate has to make an effort to maintain his friendships, and for now he needs me to make the effort for him.
We went to the park after the festival with Matt, his dad, Gavin, his mom and sister and the kids played and played. And I got to sit down and enjoy the gorgeous weather and catch up with my dear friend Justin and chat with Ramona. As I was sitting there just being I realized that it was 3:15 and I had not done one thing on my to do list today. My refrigerator is still pretty bare and I need to get going on organizing my school applications for Tate. But I had spent the day being the mommy I always wanted to be. Always.
I got to just be present in my son's life and in my life. I got to enjoy my friends and for once I wasn't worried that we had no fresh fruit in the fridge.
So I decided to see if Justin wanted to meet us for dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants with his son.
The margarita hit the spot.
I love being a mom.
I love being Tate's mom.
God is so very good.

Thanks for the inspiration about being present--this is always my goal and once and a great while I achieve it but not nearly as often as you do.
