It was a weekend of firsts in our house.
First time eating a peanut...epic fail for poor Tate as noted in the previous post. We ended up hanging out all morning and early afternoon here at the house. He vomited one more time about 2 hours after the first time. Poor baby. He was lethargic and wimpy; I could tell he just did not feel good. I finally convinced him to just let me hold him while he 'rested' around 11:30. He resisted, but by 11:37 he was out. He napped, on me, until 12:55. As such we didn't make it to pick up his cake, the wrapping I needed for the gifts which for once I had ordered and received way in advance of the party, and I still had to get him some lunch (if he was hungry) and get our stuff together. But we soldiered on and made it to the party just about 30 minutes late.
It was his BFF L's 4th birthday party...a pool party at his house. His brother turned 6 the day after he turned four earlier this week, so they always do a joint party. I went ahead and packed my swimsuit, but hoped upon hope that I wouldn't have to get in the pool with Tate this year. He's such a good little swimmer now, and I had all intentions of letting him get in the water by himself for the first time!
And he did!! I got to sit on the side of the pool and talk to a friend, while we watched our kiddos splash and swim. Tate had a great time.

This morning he didn't wake up until 6:22! A-MA-ZING! But he immediately wanted his breakfast, so I climbed out of bed to get it for him. We piddled around a bit, played a festive game of Candyland and made a trip to Whole Foods for food for the week. Came home, he played trains while I got his lunch stuff pretty well prepared (cutting up fruit, organizing snack bags that kind of stuff) and ate some lunch. We then headed off to yet another pool party. This one for one of the guys in the tribe's birthday. He and his wife (who luckily got to quit working in April!!!) live out in the burbs in a gorgeous house with their twin 7 year old boys. It was R's birthday today and N had planned a group get together for all of us. Now this was nice; lovely to hang out with my friends and just relax a bit. Tate played in the 'his' swimming pool, aka the hot tub, the entire time and had a blast. Another little girl, also 3 years old, joined him for a while. It was a gorgeous afternoon complete with several showers, with thankfully no lightning, so the kids were able to stay in the pool.

We ate bar-b-q, drank frothy drinks, sang happy birthday, ate cake and just hung out. I love this little group. As splintered as we are over the entire city now with everyone in different burbs, super busy with kids and work, we come together like we've never been apart. Just lovely. AND Tate told me over and over again "I'm having fun at this party Mom-my. I'm having so much fun at this party." And he said "I like this party so much better than L's party." (Nice insight from my observant little boy)
Tate and I made our way home around 4:30 I stopped and got him some ice cream from the Chocolate Bar since he didn't enjoy his egg-free cake so much today. He was becoming cranky and irritable. I think the lack of nap, outside in the sun and pool, weak stomach from yesterday and not quite enough overnight sleep was catching up to him. We skipped a bath and I got him into bed with stories as soon as I could after dinner. We were laying there as we always do when I first put him into bed. He was restless which is normal for him as he settles down.
Then he puked.
All over me. All over his hippo. All over his Corduroy. All over the pillows. All over the sheets. All over his precious train t-shirt.
Sigh. The only food he had today that he may not have ever had were some chips at the party. They were tortilla chips though I knew they weren't a brand we'd had before. I didn't check the label...they're chips. Certainly they don't have peanut in them. Or the only other possibility is from the ice cream place. The ice cream in the bin in front of the chocolate is nutter butter...I wonder if the scoop was contaminated. Or did he just eat too much today (though he ate minimal I have to say...maybe 10-12 chips at the party, less than 1/4 of his cake, not much lunch and not much dinner). Or does it take 24-48 hours for the allergen to leave one's system? Or are we just that unlucky and he's picked up some sort of stomach virus?
This is the first time he's vomited in almost 3 years. And three times in one weekend...poor baby. And he keeps apologizing for it. Saying "I'm sorry I throwed up Mom-my. I didn't mean to." Sweet boy. What's so strange about that is that when he spills stuff or drops something I always, and I mean always say "That's ok" because for me it really is. Accidents happen. Now when he's monkeying around in the bathroom and pees all over the floor, well that's a different story. I make him get on his hands and knees and clean that up. Unless it was an accident and he didn't get his clothes down in time. Believe me I know the difference. It's all in the way he tells me :)
In any event, I stripped the sheets, him and me. Everything is washing on the ever so long sanitary cycle in the washer and he's in bed sound asleep on new sheets and waterproof mattress covers. Even with the video monitor on I'm checking on him constantly to make sure he hasn't thrown up in his sleep...I kinda don't want to get in bed with him :0 but I will.
My dad is going to come stay with him tomorrow since he did throw up, and I'm not positive it's not a virus. They will have a great time together. I will be calling his pediatrician and his allergist in the morning to see what our next steps are.
So though it's been a bit of a stressful weekend and I'm absolutely exhausted, mentally and physically it's been a great one. Tate has been exceptionally huggy these past few days, asking for hugs, wanting me to hold him alot and I love it. As I sat there at the party today talking to him while we ate, I was so glad for his company. I've always been the single one without a plus one at any event for such a long time. I didn't realize how much I missed having someone there who was there 'for me.'
So thankful for my sweet lovable plus one.

Hi there. I've been following your story and reading about your adventures for awhile. You do such fun/great things w/ your boy and seem to have such a supportive family. Where do you get all of your energy? I am SMC and live in the area and actually am considering the daycare/school you mentioned in your blog. Would you be open to sharing about it? Wasn't sure the best way to reach out, so I am taking advantage of blog posting!
I'm sorry your weekend was so rough. I'm glad you were there beside Tate when he was feeling so ill. That's the best medicine. Mom.
I completely understand that last paragraph. For so many years, I arrived and left alone to casual gatherings. You know the ones where they say, "come as you are and bring the kids." I sometimes (with permission) brought my dog but you can figure that wasn't the same.
Now when I leave a get together, I'm no longer sad or lonely 'cause I'm bringing the life of the party home with me ;-)
I'd be happy to answer your questions about our daycare etc. How do I get in touch with you? Are you a member of the local SMC group?
Yes, I recently reached out to two local groups who didn't know each other existed, but now are connected! I will send a note to both of the group 'owners' and hopefully they can put me in touch w/ you. Thanks for your willingness to share.
