Helicopters, Independence Celebration, Cribs, PP&P, Swimming, Somersaults, New Babies, Date Night and Bedtime Battles - Oh My! - Fourth Go Round!

It's been a long day.  A long day with lots of whining, which is actually not Tate's normal Modus Operandi!

I kind of figured things might end up being off when he woke up crying last night at 3:27am.  (or was it a self fulfilling prophecy?  Hmmmm)  Anyway, I gave him a few minutes to settle back by himself which he normally does, but he amped it up to a full on cry with sitting up.  So I went to get him and put him in bed with me.  He wasn't happy about that either, but nor did he want to lay back down in the crib.  So I just put him with me.  40 minutes later he went back to sleep after kicking me in more places than I imagined I had.  Then he was up at 6 or so.  And immediately started whining.  He rarely, rarely wakes up whining or upset.

Sigh.

Our whole day was full of meltdowns, and boy I was not in the mood for some reason.  I mean, I don't always handle his whining with aplomb, but I can usually hold it together.  Drove me insane several times today.  I just would walk away or go upstairs or downstairs and do some chores and leave him to his whining.

We did have fun at music class, though he was super clingy and whiny initially.  AND I met Roula from 104.1!!  I love her morning show with Ryan...The Roula and Ryan Show.  I've listened to them for more than 10 years.  Anyway, she and her husband are in our class.  I thought she looked familiar last week, but I didn't say anything.  Today, our teacher asked her her name and she said 'Roula.'  Kasia said "Roula, Roula?"  And she said "Yep!".  So I introduced myself at the end of class and told her that my sister Kellie got engaged on their show a few years ago, and she definitely remembered them.  What a small world. :)

We then made our way to Whole Foods where I ordered his two birthday cakes...one for the party on Saturday and one for the celebration at daycare on his actual birthday!  Then we headed over to Bryan's for a little pool time with the tribe.  We were small today;  lots of people out of town and some sick kiddos :(  But we had fun.  Tate loved Ollie the dog again and got to watch Dora for the first time with sweet Jordyn!  Oh and he had his first skinny dipping experience in Bryan's pool.  He was in heaven.
DORA!  With Uncle Bryan and Jordyn!
We left to head to my parents' but the rain was so bad that I turned us around.  He had fallen asleep, and I decided to try to transfer him from the car to the bed downstairs.  He had been asleep over 30 minutes (40 exactly), so he was good and asleep.

It didn't work.  He immediately woke up and started crying.  Poor baby.  I laid down with him, but he was up talking and whimpering within 5 minutes.

Lots more tears and whining...sigh.  But he soldiered on as I ignored the whining.

We ran to Target where we ran into Lindsey :)  Always brings a smile to our face to see her!

Dinner back home, played with the new game I bought him on clearance.  A Thomas game of course.  I can see our future with games, and it's not pretty.  I read the rules and tried to explain them to him.  No dice. (no pun intended)  He wanted to do it his own way which frustrated me to no end, LOL!  But I was excited to play a game with him, so we could actually interact and play together.  Maybe in a few months because he doesn't even get the concept of 'game' right now.  He just wants to play with the pieces!

Bedtime was a battle.  He was bouncing off the walls and refusing to listen, so I put him in the crib with no lullaby, no hugs etc.  He cried and babbled and whined and fussed for 25 minutes before I went back up and rocked him to sleep.

Oh and as I was rocking him, the little procrastinator told me he needed to pee.  Mean mommy that I am told him to pee in his diaper because he had already peed all over my floor and Uncle Bryan's today, so obviously he still likes diapers like babies.

Ouch.

And I don't want to not believe him, but he does this all the time now...saves about two drops of pee to get out of going to sleep, and I'm tired of it.  Which should bring us to PP&P, but that's way too much to blog about at 9:30 at night.

In other festive news...

Before
He got a haircut yesterday (Friday, the 13th no less!  EEK!!) by the fabulous Mr. Kirk.  I can't even remember how many times we've gone, and he always does great!  Whoever gave me the advice to take my male child to a barber to have his haircut deserves a big ole kiss and thank you from me!  The best thing I've ever done for my boy.  Tate always looks great.  And this time and the previous time, Kirk was able to edge his hair.  He looks so polished and spiffy!!  Such a big boy!

After
We headed to swim lessons afterwards, well after I got a Vanilla Latte...half the coffee and double the vanilla :)

Swimming went great as usual and he kicked every single time.  And today when I had him in Bryan's pool he told me he wanted to show me how he swims to Ms. Veronica when she asks him!!  He was so awesome!!

And a post wouldn't be complete without video of him swimming....
At the end of each class, the children get on these little floats and the instructor sings this song...

'Swimming, swimming at the swimming pool.  Some days are hot, some days are cold at the swimming pool.  Backfloat, side stroke,  fancy diving too.  Don't you wish that you could have nothing else to do!!!!'

Snow Cone Truck!!!!
I took him to daycare after his lessons as I had an appointment to get my hair colored (I gotta be spiffy for the par-tay too!).  It was pouring down rain, so the school's splash day was canceled, but they still had the snow cone truck!!  I've never seen those kids look happier!  And they are all so well behaved.  They sat on their bottoms waiting patiently with the truck right there in front of them, the thunder and lightning so harsh the building shook and the water gushing out from the sky in sheets.  I stayed a bit since I didn't want to get washed away!!!
Waiting patiently!!
Tate and his BFF, Leo!!
Yum-O!  And yes he was covered
in blue when he got home!
And to try to finish up what I began last week....

DATE NIGHTS!

I try to take him out to dinner every so often.  He usually doesn't like much but the french fries or chips (at the Mexican restaurants) and most restaurants' kid food is chicken nuggets which are breaded in egg or mac n' cheese which are usually pasta made with egg and my kid doesn't eat mac 'n cheese. Or hotdogs.  Or hamburgers.  Or anything on a menu.  He'll gobble up french fries (as long as they aren't crinkle fries) with ketchup and he can do a number on tortilla chips!!!  So, I bring some of our nuggets from home usually, some applesauce, a Happy Tots pouch and usually one of his plain yogurts.  He does really well in restaurants, so it's actually quite fun to just hang out with my guy.  He's getting busier, but he will usually sit and color and hug on me.  He's quite affectionate in public!!

So here are a few pics from our recent date nights....
