Tate and I were having a conversation this evening about school, growing up and what he wanted to be. He's having a bit of trouble this week with his behavior sometimes at school, and I was asking him what he likes about school, what makes him happy at school, what makes him sad at school. I told him I wanted him to like school because he was going to be going for a long time. I told him how long I went to school...for kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd....12th, college, dental school, residency. His eyes got wider and wider.
I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He thought about it.
I said "Do you want to be a train engineer?"
He said "I want us to have a baby."
I was a bit shocked and surprised.
I said "You want me to have a baby?"
He said "I want to be a dad."
"I want to be a dad when I grow up."
I just hugged him up, so very happy that he has so much love to give. So very happy that seemingly I've shown him how much joy I find in being his parent.
I said "So you want to have your own baby?"
He said "Yes I want to be a dad."
I did tell him "Well you still have to go to college even if you want to be a dad. You have to learn lots of things to be able to take care of you and your baby."
He said "I just need to learn to stir stuff and take care of stuff like you do to be a dad."
I said "You see how much Mommy does to take care of you, so you want to be a daddy?"
He said "Yes I want to take care of a baby."
My boy wants to be a daddy.
All I ever wanted was to be a mommy.
My heart is full.
